October, it’s that time. Yes, please, clean up your leaves on your property, but not only there, but also in the sidewalks and gutters.
We’ve all heard it before how important it is during Fall/Autumn (or whatever you want to call the season) to rake up those leaves. But, they are pretty when they fall and lay on the ground. Yes, the provide fertile nitrogen and other nutrients to the soil that enhance growth for all other organisms. However, when they back-up the sewage systems in cities and outlaying areas… that causes a major problem for everyone.
If those leaves that you leave (hehe) on the streets or sidewalks, those get washed towards the storm sewers. Great, they are gone! Whoa, wait, they are still there. Once they are out of your sight and off of your property, they have quite the travel itnerary. Let’s take a look.
First, thank goodness that these leaves are off of your lawn, sidewalk and gutter! Now let’s look at your neighbors’ yards. Are they so happy? Maybe now you have just pushed all of your debris somewhere else and upset them.
